What have been the most challenging student cases you have ever managed?
You might be thinking about a very high-risk or unwell student, a manipulative student, a very needy student, a silent student or an aggressive student.
We can all benefit from a regular opportunity to reflect on challenging student cases. Thinking about how we have responded in challenging student cases in the past, and hearing examples from others and their own situations, we can ask ourselves whether we might be able to manage things better and respond to students even more effectively in the future.
Peer case discussions, inspired by those used in clinical settings, can help colleagues feel confident about responding to challenging student interactions in a way that is helpful to the students concerned, but also boundaried and appropriate to our respective roles.
This is not just a one-off event. When you buy a ticket to this programme of events, you will have access to all five 90-minute online sessions; you will be able to join as many of the five sessions as you wish.
We are keeping the group size small - to around 15 people in total - so that everyone gets a good chance to participate. As well as the benefits from the discussions, this is also a great opportunity to get to know some new people from across the sector.
If you join these sessions, you will be asked to bring (anonymised) examples of cases you have managed or encountered in the past that you would like the group to discuss. The group will be able to comment on the case, share ideas and contribute their own experiences, with facilitation from our trainer. The focus of the discussions is to help you feel confident about responding to challenging student interactions in a boundaried, role-appropriate and effective way.
